Chapter 06 · Beginner+ · 5 min
Double attack
A double attack creates two threats with one move. Simple, clean, and very annoying to defend.
Explanation
The double attack creates two problems with one move.
Une attaque double n'est pas forcément une fourchette classique. You can attack a piece with your queen while threatening checkmate elsewhere, or play a move that attacks a rook and creates a threat on the king.
The principle is simple: the adversary can only respond to one threat at a time. Si vos deux menaces sont réelles, il y a de bonnes chances qu'une des deux passe. C'est très efficace, et légèrement désagréable pour la personne en face.
To remember
A double attack creates two threats with a single move.
Classic error
Settle for one threat that's easy to parry when one blow can create two.
Player Tip
Good forcing moves often attack something while improving a piece.
