Chapter 02 · Beginner · 3 min
The queen
The queen is a rook and bishop rolled into one. Powerful, yes. A personal assistant for every problem, no.
Explanation
The queen combines the power of the rook and the bishop.
The queen can play in a straight line or diagonally, as many squares as she wants if the path is clear. It is the most mobile piece in the game. It can attack, defend, change wings quickly and create threats very quickly.
But power does not mean impatience. Taking out the queen too early often allows the opponent to attack it by developing his pieces. Result: you move the queen three times while the other quietly builds his position.
To remember
The queen combines the rook and the bishop: straight and diagonal lines, as much as she can.
Classic error
Taking the queen out too early and making her attack again and again.
Player Tip
Use the queen when the other pieces are ready. Alone, she makes noise; accompanied, it hurts.
