Chapter 07 · Early intermediate · 5 min
King + queen vs king
With king and queen versus king, shrink the space step by step. No rush. Box in, bring the king, finish.
Explanation
With king and queen against king, you reduce the space without rushing.
The queen cuts large areas of the board. The plan is to push the opposing king to an edge, then bring your king in to help. The queen alone can control many squares, but the king must participate to finish cleanly.
Be careful of stalemate: if you remove all the squares from the opposing king without giving him check, the game may become a draw. So we move forward calmly, we keep space, and we finish when the king is at the edge.
To remember
With king and queen, we reduce the space of the opposing king before mate.
Classic error
Give chess randomly and let the king escape.
Player Tip
Use the queen to cut the field, then slowly bring your king closer.
